Hi Frank,

Sid and his former Allina CEO (Dick Pettingill) have done a good bit of work on this. Dick is a fellow at Harvard this year working on this further. You all should all connect.

Thanks Bitsy. I would love to learn more about it from you and Sid.

Frank – your blog is fascinating. It brings back memories of our conversations over the years and your strategic perspectives. I very much agree with you that physicians, culturally and economically, are not at all prepared to participate in ACOs. This, to my mind, is even true in large medical groups that take capitation risk. They may be further along, but the concept of having to perform to standards other than their own would be a massive change. Thank you for your interesting, and very relevant, thoughts on health care reform.

I was glad to hear that you had gone out on your own. I have always believed that the “business”of healthcare has been poorly defined by the media and especially the entertainment industry. Most Americans believe the “ER and Grey’s Anatomy” model of medicine and have no idea what really happens on a daily basis in hospitals, clinics and doctor’s offices or how the system financially sustains itself. If there is one individual who can explain that it is you. I still miss working in healthcare and working with the wonderful team you assembled at St. Paul. I look forward to reading your blog on a regular basis.

Hope you and your family are well.
